Götz Spielmann is an Austrian filmmaker who rose to international prominence with Erwin und Julia and Der Nachbar. More recently, Antares and Revanche have been worldwide successes, the latter taking an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. His latest film, October November, takes some of the narrative and stylistic components of his recent work and increases their complexity.
Spielmann premiered October November at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, where we had the opportunity to invite him to our studio at OCAD U’s Graduate Gallery to discuss the film at length, narrative structure in his films and how his filmmaking has developed over time.
This interview is from our extensive 2013 Toronto International Film Festival coverage and the full length interview was released in October 2013.
